Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG, 12th November, 1931.
With reference to Mr. J.H. Thomas' despatch No.254 of the 11th of September, 1931, and enclosures regarding the application of Mrs. Sarah Madar for the registration of the births of her children, I have the honour to inform you that marriages between persons neither of whom profess the Christian religion duly celebrated according to the personal law and religion of the parties are recognised as valid in the Colony.
The children of such marriages are regarded
as legitimate and the Court grants administration to
the widows or children of such marriages.
2.
The records of the Registrar of Births
contain entries regarding the birth of Mohammed Madar on the 26th of September, 1893, and of Zohorah Madar on the 17th of August, 1894, the parents in each case
being given as Omar Abdool Madar and Sograh Madar nee
Shirazee; these entries apparently refer in spite of the discrepancy of the names to the Frederick Omar and
Margaret Yvette of Mrs. Madar's declaration.
case the informant was the father.
In each
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
